Gifts to the Community 

  • Your wonderful support of the Holly & Mistletoe Homes Tour allows Independence Young Matrons to share generously with others.

  • IYM reaches out to support our community with grants to various local organizations providing vital direct life-enhancing programs and services. 

  • Members donate additional items and cash throughout the year to local agencies.

  • Our Children's Theatre production is IYM's gift to the children of Eastern Jackson County.

  • IYM Endowment Funds provide scholarships at the University of Missouri - Kansas City and the Metropolitan Community College.

Children's Theatre -  March 6, 2014

The Trial of B. B. Wolfe

The 56th year of production is underway for early March 2014.   Presented for young children from area schools with a FREE public performance for all on Thursday evening March 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

  • Independence Young Matrons present an annual live theater  production. 

    • Members build and paint sets, make costumes, and learn their lines. 

    • Members become a fairy godmother, a lion, a captain a hero, and more. 

    • Then we are ready for the magic and usher in about 5,000 preschool and early elementary children for six performances, inviting the community to the seventh and only evening performance.  All Free!


History - 73 years of caring

  • Independence Young Matrons was established in 1940 to combine home interests with involvement in the civic and cultural life of Independence.

  • Those early involvements began a rich history of service and cultural development by IYM members.
